What DO you NEED to REMOVE from your SPEAK?

March 9, 2020 by Tanya Lacy

Often, it’s not what MORE we must do, it’s what we must REMOVE.

I found this to be true consulting with a company this week.

As I walked them through the material and models, they were blown away at really how UNCOMPLICATED it can be.

We’ve stripped away what didn’t add value.

We stripped away what created uncertainty

We stripped away what created confusion and something amazing emerged.

CLARITY.

Clarity is power, and when we remove what’s redundant, it’s amazing what can happen.

I am on a journey myself to find out how I can make it easier for you to access my work so that your work gets easier too.

Sometimes in our quest to enhance, we confuse.

This is a lesson we have both taught and re-learned this week.

“Watch yourself”

March 2, 2020 by Tanya Lacy

“The best reality show you can ever see is observing yourself” – Tanya Lacy

What’s the importance of keeping an eye on yourself?

Interesting one.

The short answer is we get to know ourselves, and knowing thyself is, of course, the key to growth.

And that’s the point, isn’t it? To grow? To grow in competence and confidence? To grow in capability? To grow in understanding?

Sometimes we do things we are not even AWARE we are doing. To make a shift or a change or a step towards a remedy it takes one step. And this one step is, of course, realization.

Realizing we are even doing the thing that needs to be shifted.

In practical terms, we get to do this one thing: Observe ourselves.

This month, we ask you to do one thing. Observe yourself. Observe how you show up.

“In meetings. At home. While relaxing. Before sleep. On waking. In your communication. Observe yourself.

In a World of Complexity Uncomplicated Leadership is Effective Leadership

February 17, 2020 by Tanya Lacy

The world has gone nuts.

Please keep it simple people.

There’s so much for our brains to process, the clearer and simpler you can keep it for others, the stronger your leadership.

In a world of complexity, big long words, and complex terminology seemingly designed to confuse, your straight forward approach WILL set you apart.

Why?

  1. You’re NOT playing mind games
  2. You are keeping it EASY to follow
  3. You are transparent
  4. You are approachable

BUT
You CANNOT keep leadership uncomplicated if you are

  • a game player
  • deliberately keeping it hard for others to follow you
  • you are deliberately confusing people
  • you are being aloof

If you want long lasting LEGACY.

If you want to TRULY make a difference?

It’s IMPERATIVE to keep your leadership clear and uncomplicated.

So many of our students and clients are SHOCKED when they hear us underscore this point.

Why?

They’ve been raised to believe that big long words are a measure of intelligence.

There could be nothing more further than the truth.

In the end, it’s about SERVING the end client. And the fastest path to SERVING the client is keeping your LEADERSHIP APPROACH simple. Accessible and relate-able NOT aloof.

Plus there is a whole extra layer of cross cultural complexity.

People from other countries and cultures who are operating remotely from you, may find it difficult to understand you.

The clearer and simpler you make it, the faster you can create your positive legacy.

To learn a simple and effective method of developing your leadership influence.

There is 1 thing that’s STOPPING you from GROWTH…

February 10, 2020 by Tanya Lacy

It’s a conversation you need to have that you’re avoiding…

It’s a thing you want to do, that you’ve talked yourself out of doing..

It’s not knowing what to do next, yet, being too ________________ <insert> Stubborn, Proud, Arrogant, Embarrassed, Stupid, Busy, to ASK for help.

WHY?

Because SECRETLY you’re PUTTING WAY TOO much pressure on yourself to ALREADY KNOW.

Which is really silly when you think about it.

Here’s why.

The Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

If you don’t BREAK the pattern, and have a BREAKTHROUGH you will keep getting what you’ve got.

That means, you have to CUT a new PATH. And that means being in BEGINNERS MIND.

The problem is because you are so COMPETENT in your current SITUATION, you AVOID feeling INCOMPETENT.

The reason you AVOID feeling INCOMPETENT is because it’s AWKWARD.

It’s AWKWARD because you EXPECT yourself TO NEVER EVER FEEL AWKWARD and to ALWAYS have your SH*T together.

This THINKING is FLAWED. And if this is the #1 thing STOPPING you from growing.

From gleaning a new skill. From learning a new way. From cutting a new path. From growing yourself, your business, your relationships, your team, your revenue, your profits, whatever it is that you WANT TO GROW.

You are AFRAID of being INCOMPETENT because you consider it FAILURE.

So, here’s a reframe for you. If you FAIL to feel AWKWARD you have FAILED.

Feeling AWKWARD is the #1 BEST WAY to accomplish SUCCESS.

Every MASTER was once a DISASTER (I heard T.Harv Eker say this) and it’s true.

Therefore, I encourage you to FEEL awkward. To love feeling awkward, and truth be known? Once you’ve done something once, you begin to stop feeling awkward.

Why? Because it’s not new anymore.

My team and I felt SUPER Awkward and I felt VERY Awkward when I filmed all the video’s I had to film to create our online program The Influential Leader Online. It was super uncomfortable… NOT having notes. NOT having a teleprompter. NOT having faces to speak to. IT felt WEIRD and I felt AWKWARD.

To get over that, I had to think about YOU. My client. My customer. My community member.

I had to think about how this material helps you grow your business and grow yourself.

I had to GET OVER MY AWKWARDNESS to help you. And this is exactly the point.

WE get in our own way.

WE STOP ourselves from HELPING OTHERS when we OBSESS about feeling awkward.

In a world that obsesses about PERFECT Instagram pics? Obsess about being AWKWARD and watch what happens.

My clients love the content. I get rave reviews. Why? Because after they come to my live event, or after they have sessions with my team, they have material to reflect on and they get to carry me in their pocket.

They get to grow their company. They get to grow themselves. And, I get to grow.

All because we got over our stupid awkwardness. Make sense?

GROWING the team.

February 3, 2020 by Tanya Lacy

One of the most under-rated tools is the tool of creating GENUINE support inside the team.

This is particularly hard for two types of clients we have.

  1. Control freaks 🙂
  2. Perfectionists 🙂

That is a genuine learning environment where it’s totally ok to stuff up and make a mistake.

Yes I said that.

As a business leader at times this can be hard, because you always want to jump in and FIX or DO IT right.

However, to grow the business it’s key to do exactly the opposite. That is to step back and create the space you need.

While I know you may KNOW this? I really hope this serves as a reminder for you on how you can create opportunities for yourself and your team to stretch and grow.

This can only happen if you equip others by letting go and stepping back.

We do have more to say on how to address this, however for now, I wanted to bring this into your awareness and remind you of the opportunity awaiting you.

The opportunity to have more time to yourself for strategic moves, once you learn to support others enough that they step into their competence.

And this, starts with a decision.

LEADING IN A CORPORATE SETTING?

In the corporate world, we can become robotic. I’m sure you’ve had the experience of this.

Effective Leadership

January 20, 2020 by Tanya Lacy

Effective Leadership starts with discussing what effective leadership IS inside YOUR business.

What does it look like?

What does it feel like?

What is the impact?

As simple as that sounds, it’s often the elephant in the room.

When we are not equipped to discuss leadership in a productive way, bad leadership flourishes more easily.

Why?

There’s no model of what good looks like.

No model of what’s expected.

Bad leadership can happen if there’s no willingness (or even an avoidance) to talk about leadership in the course of everyday matters.

Leadership is not something to be saved up for performance reviews and retreats. It’s a part of day to day functional excellence.

Often in many businesses’ – it’s not until people are unhappy, unproductive; (there’s water cooler talk and grumbling) that attention gets paid to this topic.

Being on the front foot and CREATING effective leadership together is key.

The takeaway from this post?

When good leadership works, it’s organically celebrated.

Good leadership is evidenced when the culture oozes positive collaboration, support, and strong team alignment.

More effective leadership begins with believing IN and believing THAT it CAN be created together.
