7 Ways To Get Better At Setting Boundaries

March 16, 2023 by Tanya Lacy

Setting and enforcing personal boundaries is essential for maintaining healthy relationships
and reducing stress in your life.

Here are some ways to be better with your boundaries:

  1. Identify your boundaries: The first step in setting better boundaries is to identify what
your boundaries are. Think about what makes you feel uncomfortable or
disrespected and what you need to feel safe and secure.
  2. Communicate your boundaries: Once you’ve identified your boundaries, it’s important
to communicate them clearly to the people in your life. Be assertive, but also
    respectful, when communicating your boundaries.
  3. Say “no” when necessary: It’s okay to say “no” when someone asks you to do
something that violates your boundaries. Saying “yes” when you really mean “no” can
    lead to resentment and stress.
  4. Prioritize self-care: Taking care of yourself is essential for maintaining healthy
boundaries. Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you relax, such as
reading, exercising, or spending time with friends.
  5. Practice mindfulness: Being mindful can help you identify when your boundaries are
being crossed. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings and listen to your
    intuition.
  6. Seek support: It’s okay to ask for help or support when setting and enforcing
boundaries. Reach out to friends, family, or a therapist or coach for guidance and
    encouragement.
  7. Set consequences: If someone repeatedly violates your boundaries, it’s important to
set consequences. This may include limiting contact or ending the relationship
    altogether.

Remember, setting and enforcing boundaries is a process. It takes time and practice to develop healthy boundaries, but doing so will ultimately lead to more fulfilling relationships and a greater sense of self-respect.

What Is Sound Leadership?

February 21, 2023 by Tanya Lacy

When I think about ‘Sound Leadership’ I think about sound decision-making.

Those moment-to-moment decisions, and inner thoughts that direct.

Thoughts that direct you, or direct your communication, the way you think about your day, your people, your goals, your outcomes, your responsibilities, and your relationships. (It’s a lot really – when you think about it)!.

If I take it a little further, I think about good habits (sound habits), good practices (sound practices), and good outcomes, (sound outcomes) – that which is solid, that which has depth, and tenure, and that lasts.

Someone setting out on their leadership journey may be light on their experience, yet big on their energy and at the same time eager to ensure they have a ‘good’ reputation as a leader.

Someone more seasoned in people leadership may be strong on self-expression and good at decision-making, yet, they have less energy than they used to, or are less patient to be present and work through things, or share their experiences.

From my experiences working boots on the ground with leaders every day, (past 26 years or so), the aspiration is of course to have a reputation for being a good leader. A sound leader. One that makes good decisions, and makes the right and best choices. This is a noble direction and one that is a lot of work. In the end, in my view, it is an outcome of having a particular approach. Taking it further, the approach comes from mindset.

So in a nutshell, I’d have to conclude that Sound Leadership is a series of mindsets. Decisions are made daily to hold and operate from a particular mindset. Values may be deeply held, but the mindset gives you responsiveness at the moment. (More on that in other material).

What I’ve seen work, is adopting foundational mindsets that hold strong in most conditions. No matter what the circumstances.

If you think about the ocean for a second. The weather may be windy and the sea choppy, but the deeper you dive down into the water, the calmer it is.

The weather may be calm on top, and dive deep down into the water, and it’s calm also. I feel that sound leadership is similar to this. That when the core or the foundation of your leadership comes from a deep place, no matter what the circumstances are that you face, you can hold fast and you can be the solid steady hand in high-stakes situations.

We are currently working with this idea of sound leadership and have developed our next online program called Leadership Foundations, 5 Pillars of Sound Leadership. To find out more, click here.

Working with us is an exploration of layers and depths. We often go deep and wide as we explore the day-to-day experience of our clients, who are in leadership roles.

If you’re someone who likes solid steps, and you are ready to take full responsibility for your own leadership journey? I truly believe you will enjoy these Leadership Foundations 5 Pillars of Sound Leadership.

To find out more detail on the breakdown of the modules, the time commitment, and the cost click here.

I’d like to leave you pondering this, does the idea of being a more masterful and sound leader – sit well with you?

Pleasing Others…

June 23, 2022 by Tanya Lacy

Pleasing others is actually a great thing to do.

However, twisting yourself inside out and BEING who you are NOT born to be is a very BAD IDEA.

Here’s why…

You can relate to this I know, because you are a people lover. The problem is that if you bend and twist yourself into something you’re not, you loose who you are, then you become a door mat. That then is a discussion about boundaries. In our people skills series coming up, you will begin to re-see that boundaries for business are crucial to be effective and get the results you’re after.

People treat us the way we transmit. Are you allowing yourself to be walked over?

Once you STOP doing this, your entire world will change.

Once you SAY what you mean and mean what you say WITHOUT ‘worrying’ about what other people think – your whole world and business results will grow.

I KNOW this not just from sharing it, from living it.

My whole world changed when I STOPPED pleasing the world, And got into FULL alignment with what I am here to do.

It sorts itself out.

I have more to say on this for you as we journey with the people skills for business work – however, in the meantime – notice when you are pleasing others.
